THE NEWBERRY LIBRARY
Located in Chicago, Illinois

Founded in 1887 by Walter L. Newberry, the Newberry Library is a public, non-lending library. It’s collections center on history and culture of Western Europe from the Middle Ages up through the mid-twentieth century. Holdings also encompass materials on the Americas from initial European contact with American Indians to western expansion.

Oklahoma State University is a consortium member of the Newberry Library’s Center for Renaissance Studies (CRS). The CRS specializes in materials and programs for medievalists, Renaissance scholars, and early modernists studying England, France, Italy, and Spain.

Through OSU’s membership, the College of Arts and Sciences offers competitive travel grants to junior faculty and graduate students to conduct research at the Newberry Library and/or attend CRS seminars, programs, and events. These limited awards range from $500 to $1,000. While on site and researching the collections, grant recipients receive special retrieval and copying services.
