THE NEWBERRY LIBRARY
Located in Chicago, Illinois
Founded in 1887 by Walter L. Newberry, the Newberry
Library is a public, non-lending library. It’s collections center on history
and culture of Western Europe from the Middle Ages up through the mid-twentieth
century. Holdings also encompass materials on the Americas from initial
European contact with American Indians to western expansion.

Oklahoma State University is a consortium member of the
Newberry Library’s Center for Renaissance Studies (CRS). The CRS specializes in
materials and programs for medievalists, Renaissance scholars, and early
modernists studying England, France, Italy, and Spain.
Through OSU’s membership, the College of Arts and
Sciences offers competitive travel grants to junior faculty and graduate
students to conduct research at the Newberry Library and/or attend CRS seminars,
programs, and events. These limited awards range from $500 to $1,000. While on
site and researching the collections, grant recipients receive special retrieval
and copying services.
